All cartridges are virtually the same cost to manufacture.
They cost the same to produce as replics.Often made in the same factories in the far east.
The price difference is purely dictated by market forces.A supplier will charge whatever the market will stand.
If it is a reputable firm, then they will have a marketing advantage on the back of respectability
Printers associated with heavy office use will obviously find it easier to charge more for cartridges.
In essence ,its a rip off.Go for a printer that will take reasonably priced or replica cartridges.

Lexmarks and HP ones have built-in print heads. The others are just ink containers.
However, this does have one advantage for us poor users - as they contain technology, Lexmark & HP cartridges can be patented - and have been. This means that no-one else can make copies. Therefore, any cheap remanufactured (ie. refilled) Lexmark & HP cartridges must have been originally made by Lexmark or HP.
The secret of "frugal" printing with one of these makes of printer is to buy remanufactured cartridges and then refill them until the print head actually does peg out.

My ploy is to search for Continouous ink supply System, create a list of priners that i can use a system on, then get a printer. Hell, you say, i'll be buying a new printer...my comment...You will make the cost of 2 new printers in savings with the initial fill of your system... after that, the ink alone (600ml= £20) is cheeeeep.

Depends on a lot. You pay for quality and the name sometimes. Some cartridges hold more ink than other, so this is a factor.
Me, I just get on Ebay buy the empty cartridges and refill them myself. Save money then.

well all manufactorers have different prices. for example a 5mp camera might cost a certain amount from one manufactorer but another 5mp camera from another might cost more...but u also hav to take to account it also depends on the printer, different printers use different cartridges which have different costs....
