The fabric will weaken, and if you have hard water it will turn yellow (if it's white).
Oxy-Clean works much better than bleach and it doesn't harm your fabrics.

The use of a lot of bleach in one load and continued use of bleach on the same item does weaken cotton fibers. If you only have to wash it once with bleach, it should be okay. Usually, in my experiences, stuffed animals never come out quite the same after washing- with bleach or not.

make sure that the fabric is able to be bleached. some fabric blends will fade with bleach. make sure you fill the washer and add the bleach before you load your washer. never put bleach directly on any fabric. it will not only weaken the fabric, but it can eat the material. if it is used properly it is very safe and is a great cleaner. i don't recommend it if you are not sure. if you are trying to take out dirt and brighten, add about 1/2 cup of cascade dish washing powder to your whites or light cottons. hope this helps!

Unless you do it over and over or use way too much bleach, it won't harm it. When you bleach you are actually breaking down the fibers to get out the stain, dirt or whatever the problem is. if you are worried, just use some OxyClean or take it to the cleaners. Hope this helps.
