We love the hobo, the homeless and the poor.

Both. And they do still exist. These days, with so many people homeless for so many reasons - loss of jobs, homes, families, mental illness, veterans abandoned by the government and people for whom they fought - there are many more out there. With that and the decline of the railroads, the mystique of the classic hobo has waned. Now, the homeless are simply viewed as a problem for cities, something to avoid by folks that got something, and an annoyance by the affluent.

I think there seen as a little bit of both now. There free spirits because they believe in something and people realize that, but they just dont like how they go about it. So this makes them not despised against, but more so as an annoyance, if you will.

No one really uses the word 'hobo' anymore. It is an outdated form of expression. Possibly because there really aren't any in existance at this point, or very few.

Not so much hobo's any more as they are all just homeless bums, they are looked down upon usually. Or pitied or whatever, but I don't ever hear the term hobo any more.

they exist, and i don't know anyone who sees them as free spirits. Most are down on their luck people with substance abuse or other mental problems. If people despise these people, then they are plainly evil, and deserve forms of torture i cannot mention on Y!A.
