I have a small business and want to access the same files from two desktops, and occasionally two laptops. is this a good idea?

Your best bet is to try a program called Log Me In. I use it and it works great over broadband connections. It's free!

It really isn't that hard to set up...If your "dumb" with computers you could either learn (it would probably take about 2 hours to explain everything to you, then show you how to set up a static IP address, Port Forwarding, and configuring your firewall to allow connections from trusted and Internet zones). It would be wise to have someone that knew a little bit about networking to help you out. Overall, it took me about 30 minutes to set up, and I've only taken a basic networking class.

Tight VNC is free and very easy to use. I strongly suggest downloading it and giving it a try.
