I heard that what ever the areas are (were) poor, people often like to eat Hot Spicy Food. Not to offend anyone here, but what this the truth? Appreciated your answers.

To [rentureka7], Wasabbi is not really a Hot spicy taste to most people...of course Japaneses are not poor...I have cousins living in Tokyo, Japan too.

I had the same question too...According to my observations, places like China, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, the food in some regions were very spicy. Seems to me, the poor, the lower income provinces did have Hot Spicy Food most. In Asia, most families probably couldn't afford to have a lots of meat and vegetables. The best they could do, they had to stretch the meat into more dishes along with a lots of rice for a full meal. There was only way to stretch the meal by prepare with a lot of chili in your dishes.

Someone told me once about the weather had something to do with...but I realized that Vietnam is not cold place, so as mid-China as Szhechuang, Hunan, etc...people can take hot spicy food as hell. I understood that Korean eats hot spicy food but most Northern Chinese were not.

I would like to know where you are from? I am from New Jersey, white middle class. Italian food can be hot. Not as Hot as newer arrivals Asian Indians and Mexicans. Firstly rich or poor you use what grows where you are from say like Mexico had Hot Chilies since the beginning of there time. Hot food is not only good but good for you. People have less colon cancer in nations that eat very Hot Spicy Food. America is lucky because we are so big we can raise anything. Where I live we are lucky because we have restaurants from all different cultures. When I travel to other areas the choices aren't so great. Get started with a little heat and you will grow to love it. Poverty has nothing to do with hot foods. And in countries where herbs {as India} are used for medical treatment we are finding out more and more the health benefits.

Well hot and spicy food regions in my opinion are Mexico(more of the hispanic areas), India, and Korea. Hispanic areas use alot of chilis and spicy vegetables, while India uses a LOT of spices in their foods, and Koreans usually eat a lot of spicy food in general, since they live up north, and if you eat hot and spicy foods, then it makes you warmer. As for India, ever since the Christopher Columbus days, India's been growing alot of spices, and that's what they've been abundant in a growing, so that's what they eat, same goes for the spanish regions...they grew a lot of chilis and stuff because it could be easily preseved and used in cooking. it's not necessarily poor people, its more like where you live, which determines what you can grow as food. The japanese have a really really HOT paste that you put on sushi that's called Wasabi, it's green, and it's from a horseradish root, and i use it sometimes(me being japanese) and the japanese are definitely NOT poor. Nor the koreans, since they're advancing too.
