She doesn't have to. She can keep her name or hyphenate her last name with his. They can combine last names to come up with another last name more suitable to them. It's all a matter of choice.

The female doesn't necessarily have to take the male's name. It's actually becoming more accepted with the man taking the woman's last name. Female taking names is a stereotype.

It's tradition to take the man's name.However now is some states it's required.California is going through a case where the man wants to take the woman's last name and the state won't let him.But in most states it is equal rights in changing last names.

There is no legal law requiring this, as long as the last name you chose is on the marriage license in case of future problems, but hwich last name or hyphenated with both is still strictly up to you both

they don't. its a choice that an engaged couple make together. a woman may want to keep her name because of her career or out of respect for her fathers family. but generally a woman takes a mans name as they are becoming a family unit. As a couple having the same surname is a sign of unity. when two become one.

Who said she has to?

There is no reason for a woman to change her name if she doesn't want to.

If the fiance insists on her changing her last name, and it's important for her not to, maybe she should rethink the wedding. They may be living in different worlds -- modern world woman and old world man. That could make for alot of frustration and resentment for both of them later.

Well it's been liek that for centurys. But now a days the guy can take the woman's name if he wants or both get married and stay with your names. It all depends on the people who are getting married on who take who's name.

It is a practice in Western society. In one way it is a good practice, because, just by your last name, people can tell you belong to one household and one family.

In many parts of the world, women and children carry mothers name. This way, nothing changes, if you remarry or do not marry.

I would think it is because the male carries on his fathers legacy. when you have children the children usually have the fathers name. A male born is very important to many people.
