On a total or per capita?
Normally wealth is measured on a per capita basis, in which case the answer is Delaware.

If you're talking about "total" wealth, the answer is California due to the sheer size of the population.

It's funny but it is not California, as most people would claim. California is not even in the top 5. It's ranked #13.
The richest state rankings is based on states with the most towns where people have alot of money and high incomes.
Number 1. is Connecticut and coming in a close second is New Jersey. Shocked huh. Here is the complete ranking.
1. Connecticut
2.New Jersey
3. Massachusetts
4. Maryland
5. Colorado
6. Virginia
7. New Hampshire
8. New York
9. Delaware
10. Minnesota
Heres the proof...............

Delware, Conn, Minn, but income levels can vary a lot within a state. In Minnesota one county a person makes an average of $75,000 a year, but a county 120 miles the income is $15,000 a year, so there a lot of varation. Factor in cost of living also the differances narrow. You many make more in the northeast or CA but the cost of living is astomically higher too. Mississippi, LA, AR are the lowest income states, and some areas the income levels are $6000 to $ 20000 a year, but on average Conn makes 53k a year, but Miss makes about 27k a year. Its a interesting to look a wage differentals to me lol
