How do you imagine that life on earth would be altered by the arrival of the Panacea, the Elixir of Life, or AurLplasm (as I named it in the novel I wrote where it was taken to Atlantis and is currently ensiled within a capsule deep in the Caribbean Sea)? The substance, whatever its appelation, possesses the power to bestow immortality and eternal youth upon the recipients. Assume that it would be available to all and that its distribution could not be controlled by any individual or nation.

I think the key word in your question is "suddenly." If mankind had a few hundred millennea to evolve, we might well become an interesting species. We would, of course, be the only species to escape the primary imperative to procreate. But, with "suddenly," we are left with all of the fears, prejudices, and drives associated with procreation and survival of the species intact. So, I suspect that not all that much would change in the short run.

If it was something where the person could die through physical injury, then it would be ok. Immortality would suck because it would get too boring. That's what makes life exciting is the fact that we can die. Eternal youth would be nice though. Stop the aging process at 21. Besides that maybe still have illness.

My best suggestion for something like this is a near endless life where you can live for thousands of years. Perhaps have magic and good economy/ resources that are endless so that we can pursue or wishes in life.

Too many people. Too much garbage. Too much noise. Too much pollution.

Unless the ability to travel intergalactically or to other planes of existence came with the panacea, forget it. We die for a reason--living forever makes the world suck for everybody. With no escape from all the crowding and confusion, people would be begging to die but couldn't.

The Earth would overpopulate and all resources would be depleted within the first 500 years and all life on earth would be gone.
