the world in The Giver takes place somewhere in the future, we are not clearly told where and when. We know that it snowed when they left the community. The community is supposedly a utopia because everyone is happy with what they have and do not question anything going on. I hope this helped. if u need more info, go to www.sparknotes.com.

its been a while since i've read it (i am 22 and read it around 11 or 12), but i actually remember it being one of the first books that i actually enjoyed. maybe you should try reading it, it's pretty easy to read. i believe it's set in the future in the suburbs if i remember right.

It takes place sometime in the future. We don't know the exact place, only that outside their community it gets cold in winter, so its not somewhere tropical.

You could read that book in an afternoon, and you would have your answer. You might actually enjoy it. Do your own homework!! (Don't tell me what to do, young man.)
