I noticed your question and can not seem to get in contact with you, Anyways you stated that your using chopped down pine? That is a huge no no!!!!!!!!!!!!! When you burn pine the sap buildes up in your chimney known as creasote. This can catch your chimney and roof on fire, Do Not Burn Pine, I hope this finds it's way to you.

You can burn pine, if you are willing to clean the chimney often. Also it will depend on the type of chimney you have. a metal flue in a brick chimney does not pose a great threat. Especially if there is concrete around the flue. Now, if you only have the black sheet metal pipe in the open, forget it, pine will cause fires in that case. Even the logs you burn to clean the chimney can cause problems in that case, the whole idea of them is they burn very hot and ignite the creosote build up, burning it off.

We used to burn pine in our furnace at the old farm all the time, but the flue was encased in concrete, and we used the pine only to get the coal started. This way, we only had to clean the chimney a couple of time a year.

Yes, solid...all day long burning of only pine will create troubles, but the circumstances and equipment used will dictate how much.
