Tell your dad exactly what you told us here. You should have no trouble getting an updated version.

Are you up for upgrade yet? If you have Verizon Wireless (and some other carriers) your upgrade date is 2 months before your contract ends. Most people sign a 2 yr contract, so 22 months after you got your phone is when you can get a new one at the new customer price (IE: RAZR for $50 and not $290). However, if you are not, you would have to pay full retail for the phone, which ranges from about $150 (most basic) up to, god i dont know, like a few thousand for some REALLY high end ones.

Tell him the truth, that you cant hear any one talking and you have an old phone, And that You need a cell phone for emergencys because now adays you never know what comes up? And I would calmely sit him down and compromise, Tell him you pay half of the cell phone, and if that doesnt work, Then talk to your mom, or an older sister

I wouldn't beg - a lot of parents look down upon that and I personally think that kids who beg are spoiled brats.

Do you get an allowance or money for holiday or your birthday? Save it up. Your parents will be more willing to help you out if you offer to help pay for the replacement - if you don't get an allowance offer to do chores every week to help pay for it.
Otherwise ask your parents if they pay for insurance on the phone, and if the screen truly messes up then use the insurance to get a replacement.

Prove that you can be responsible with it, be nice to him, no smart mouth or back talking etc, and basically catch him on a good day, explain your reasoning, and maybe even offer to help pay for a new phone, and give him a couple day to think about it.

Catch Him on a good day, and explain to him whats wrong with your cellphone. And ask him lovingly and politely, to buy a new one, if that doesn't work BEG! Thats what I had to do to get my parents to buy the Razr I wanted.
