instead of taking care of other countries

That's what I (an American) would like to know. We obviously have enough on our plate at home. Yeah, it's real generous of us to give billions of dollars to the rest of the world in an attempt to fix their problems, but doesn't our government know that money is not the fix-all for social problems? Especially when the majority of the money is going into the hands of other governments - instead of directly to the people that need it. Haven't they learned from our failing public school system that throwing money at the problem only creates a false sense of progress?

A very good question, because they don't give a hoot about you or anyone else that lives in the u s of a. You are one life and to the gov. you are an expendable item. Your like so many apples in a basket and after a period of time you will cease to exsist. If your gov. cared you would have free health care, work for everyone, no homeless, lower taxes and of course a better quality of life. Welcome to the real world. Take care of yourself and family first because nobody else will.

I suppose it boils down to diplomacy. I think the idea that our own people have the resources to take care of themselves, or know where they can get what they need. We are AMERICANS. That means we are born and bred to do what we have to to get the job done. It is just the last 50, or 60 years where everyone expects the government to wipe their posteriors. If you need help around here you get help, but better if you get er done yourself. Other countries aren't as well off as we are. This shows compassion and good will when we help others. If you were in trouble you'd want others to help you, right?

America does take care of its own to a point, the poorest person in America is not so poor they have to eat the maggots off their bodies for the protien. I dont think we nessasarily take care of other countries,we sometimes are the reason for other countries problems.

Because they feel they have to pander to the global powers and give like everyone else does. In some sense if every country didn't help anyone else because they had their own problems, nothing would ever get done in the world, but to the point it's happening now it is ridiculous Americans are last in line

Because the government believes that the American people can take care of themselves and that they do not need the government to act in a paternalisic way that would take away our freedoms. Spiderman: with great freedom comes great responsibility.

The problem is that we do. However, these programs are all designed to help those who don't want to help themselves. Those people that try to help themselves do not get help from the government. It is the lazy persons that get all of the help.
