Sheer horsepower. I have an S, which I chose because I like serious torque to manuever up switchbacks in the mountains. She is a 6 speed, manual. Lovely car. A regular Mini has less torque. Further, if you buy automatic, the engine is a bit sluggish, since autos tend to not use the power as gratifyingly well as manuals.

And there is something else ... the S has this adorable snout, like a pig's snout in my opinion, which is an air dam letting air into the engine to power that additional torque. The regular Mini just has a flat hood ... not very interesting.

Cooper is a standard fuel inj motor

Cooper S is a Supercharged motor

The engine is supercharged and stronger on the S. The car also comes with more features and options than the regular model.

The S is more sporty...supercharged and fast
