The process begins by asking a question as you did here.

People in Darfur, thousands and thousands of people living with Cancer, AIDS, as quadriplegics, including innocent children who will live a very short life with challenges but somehow they manage to smile once in a while.. The countless mothers and fathers who lost a kid to some tragedy... The thousands and thousands of Children in Iraq who die on a daily basis... One bomb in a market recently killed little animals, and of course children. Orphan kids who have no idea what this vast complex sometimes cruel world is, and who have no one they can trust to comfort or tell them. You don't need to focus on yourself. If your problems are as bad as the foregoing, there are other people you can think about - without ever being selfish.

We all have trouble with that at times, just care about someone else, maybe a lot of other ppl. Try and do something kind for someone besides yourself. Good question, I'll try and follow my advice if you will lol.

Girl that is okay... If you focus on yourself you will learn things about yourself. When you interact with other people, you will know about yourself... When you try new things and choose which one you like... that's okay. If you wish to try the latest fashion, go ahead. There is also the other things you need to consider... Aren't a lot of people thinking like you? So when you focus on yourself, you are one with everyone.

In India when they greet there, they say "Namaste". What does it mean? If you are in the place inside you where the whole universe resides and I am in my place. Then there is one of us.

So it can be a start to know other people, because you know yourself.... Start small.... Grow... Be yourself...

Focusing on yourself is NOT an intrinsically "bad" thing. Depends on how you mean it. Being introspective & thus gaining insights about yourself is a healthy thing to do. Being "self oriented" to the exclusion of others is quite another thing. I have no idea if one or the other applies to you. Learning WHO WE ARE is essential to growth, life is a journey in exploration of self.
I wish you would add details re how you mean this.

Look for someone or some people that are going through hard times and help them out. Maybe they just need encouragement and some kind words to see them through a trying time.

You're getting there.

Simply by focusing on other things and other people. Do volunteer work. Get some hobbies, get a job... whatever... just get busy.

focusing on yourself isn't all bad, only if you look around you, it can help to make you a better person as well (compassionate, caring, considerate etc.) an also the world around you.

Volunteer to help others. You will see how much better off you are than they are and be more empathetic.
