My three-year-old (Isabel) came up with nicknames for her little sister, based on sounds that she made. The baby (Lily) used to say "Lala" when she cried, so she became Lala, or Lily Lala, and when she became older she would say "Goo", so she was nicknamed Gooey; Isabel even introduces her sister to other people as Gooey "I'm Dora (the explorer), and this is my sister, Gooey". People must think that we're odd :-)
So, if you have another child, or relatives that are children, it might be interesting to see what nicknames they come up with.

I picked out nicknames for the way i felt during the time i was pregnant. for my oldest its peanut, and my youngest its boo-boo. the nicknames follow them even now. boo-boo has a way or getting hurt even when sitting in place and peanut loves to eat. its odd how that worked but it did.

They just come to you, without even thinking about it. I know I wanted to call my daughter sweetpea, but somehow it's morphed into boogie pants. I don't know why I call her that, it just fell out of my mouth one day and stuck.

I love to call my little brother "noonoo" (meaning little thing) and "beebee" (from "baby")
It depends on what name you get used to calling him, it makes you feel closer to him and that he's special, so you don't have to change the name -stick to the old name you loved to call him.
