Understanding new things can lead to a change in the way people view things.
People fear change.
It also depends on the context.
People have always been taught certain things by their parents and peers, and have grown up with very narrow and stunted views on life and the world.
You are a very lucky person to have the open minded views that you do. Some people work thier whole lives to be as open as you are. Some never get to that point. Some don't even realise that there is more out there to explore!! Some people like to think they know it all, and if you don't understand something, then you can't know about it..... this can make know-it-alls very angry (I like to think that I am a know-it-all, the only problem is that i hardly know anything!!!!).
Have you noticed that a lot of parents use fear to keep their children in line?
And we are taught not to question our parents or their motives.
We are taught to fear, but to never question that in which we fear.
This can turn peoples whole lives upside down. I am like you. I like to embrace that which I don't know. I embrace change as I feel that it is the best way that I can really get to know myself, and better those things that I may not like about myself.
I think that what some people really fear is themselves.
They fear their desires, their true motives for doing things.....
They fear that if they dig too deep, they may come to realise that they ARE the thing that they have always been raised to believe is wrong or evil.
Some are just brain washed.
So many answers for this question.
I'll shut up now or I never will!
:p

The answer to that question is not that simple. People are not born with this behavior. When a child is very little it is curious about everything and discovers the world around him with an open mind, fearless and friendly. It their environment, parents, family and more from whom this little one will learn to fear things that are different or strange. It's up to us grown-ups to make the changes.

I think it is hard for people to accept what they ae not used to or what they experience as "normal" in everyday life. Some people are just closed minded, but they are the ones missing out because they won't leave their comfort zone to see what they might discover. It's a good thing I am not like that, or I probably wouldn't be able to accept the fact that bigfoot is just outside my door.

- It is actually a natural behavior for humans to be afraid of the unknown. From an anthropological perspective, this particular fear was a survival mechanism that has been passed on from generation to generation. Fear helped humans survive in the wild, since danger was everywhere.
- So in order to overcome our fear of the unknown, one needs to acquire more knowledge. Fear and anxiety often come from ignorance.

People have a resistance to change. If they accept your point of view and it is different from their own they have to change. I think people tend to criticize what they don't understand. People are more than positive and negative charges.
