French Quarter in West Hollywood
7985 Santa Monica Boulevard (corner of Laurel Avenue)
West Hollywood, CA 90046

The founders of this restaurant went on to open up the Mimi's Cafe chain, so the menu is almost exactly the same. They also owned The Kettle in Manhattan Beach.

Now matter what time of year it is, I ALWAYS get the French Onion Soup! It is SO GOOD! All entrees are under $20.

Los Angeles is a big place. One side of the city is nowhere near the other side. so, maybe you should be more specific in asking the question ? There's great places in San Pedro, Eagle Rock, Brentwood, Hollywood. and they are all terribly far from each other. and when you say "near", do you mean Santa Barbara, Orange County, Pasadena, ????!! There are thousands of good restaurants for $20 per person. Jeeze, where do I start ?!

Try Fred 62. The ambiance is nice (assuming you want something more than a chain restaurant), everything is well under $20. It's diner style food, everything is good.

Palm Thai in Thai Town (5273 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, (323) 462-5073). Great food and on Friday & Saturday nights they have a Thai Elvis impersonator. Sounds tacky, but it is a lot of fun.
Dinner for *two* runs about 20 bucks.
