Why do so many straight people assume that only women who look butch are gay? There are also some gay men out there that do not look like they are. I am a very feminine woman, and many times people assume I am straight. (lol) I don't mind, its just that people sometimes have their comments like, oh you don't look like a dyke, or something along those lines.

I have the SAME problem, I am very femm, and everyone thinks I am straight, and when I am with my girlfriend, we sometimes get comments like "she's not a lesbian, she's just going through a phase, look at her" It's gets really old after a while, I mean yes, it's def a compliment, because their always suggesting your very attractive, but there are lots of attractive woman, some just don't want to be with a male. I am still going to be me whether people judge me or not.

those are the straight people who are ignorant bigots. if they really knew any of us or had a decent education, they'd know that in the majority of cases, stereotypes are usually b.s. I'm a little bit butch, perhaps...considered to be a "dyke" I guess. but most people who don't know me assume that I'm a lesbian. and my partner is very feminine.

Because they see gay people as "other" and can only understand them in terms of stereotypes until they actually meet someone who breaks those stereotypes. Even the most tolerant people will often have stereotypes about other groups, even if those stereotypes are ones that consist of "positive" traits.

Thats funny because my mom is old fashioned and there is this lady in our town who looks pretty masculine and my mom is like "oh, she must be gay blah, blah blah" meanwhile the woman is married with 2 kids. So it goes both ways I think some people are just old fashioned and don't have very open minds

I love steryotypes! They're such a false image of a person, they almost always portray negative images, yet the people never get offenede! I like to go out and pretend to be a wonderfully steryotypicle gay guy. Its great fun.

People are ignorant no matter what sexual orientation, race, religion, people are gonna judge. And it sucks. People who don't take the time to get to know someone , and judge them right away are ignorant, self-centered and juss plain mean. I hope this helps, and I hope no one has hurt you too badly. Im sorry if you were stereotyped. Have a great day and dont let it get ya down :)!!!

Some people are just idiots. They couldn't tell a car from a truck if it ran them down.

I'm not gay, but my aunt is, and she is very feminine. I've also seen many guys that are gay and they aren't the flamboyant girly guy either.

I really dislike the stereotype that all gay men want to be women or wear dresses. It's very annoying.

I feel the same way you do about stereotypes. I don't know what the answer is to curb this either.
