Its legal.. but in more places than not, its difficult as the forms generally have only a space for the wife to pick the name and not the husband.. There are a few legal actions on this going on right now in fact, that have been in the news.

(NOTE: a wife dosent have to take a husbands name though.. they can keep thier same name they had going in.. there is no actual requirement to take the name of a spouse.. its just a tradition)

Mostly its going to be the standard change you name stuff to change to the wifes name until they change the forms & laws.

This is a left over from the dark old days where it was important to preserve the males linage, and not the females.. its clearly discrimanatory though.. I dont think any courts anywhere in the US are going to have a hard time deciding that fact when it comes up...

Yes, I even know a couple who did this because the wife's last name was very rare and she had no brothers but wanted to see the name continue. He was fine with that. It's just a matter of filing the right paperwork. People can legally change their name to just about anything; I was bopping around Wikipedia lately and saw an article on the MTV show Jackass!, where a fellow by the name Jack *** tried to sue them, saying they were gaining fame on his name (a name he legally changed to create awareness of the dangers of drunk driving).

that is an previous custom. The eldest male regularly inherits all of the valuables. meaning the youngster could have an identical final call. to make effective that this occurred the mummy could have an identical final call. Now if the mummy has a distinctive final call then the daddy the youngster may well be seen out of wedlock and not the inheritor to the valuables. if certainty be recommended I have not have been given any thought. i've got been married two times and have advised the ladies those that they did no longer could substitute their final call, yet the two did. Your thought isn't undesirable the two, why will no longer be able to a guy have his final call replaced while married. how many men finally end up divorced and nonetheless prefer their wifes to help them? to illustrate the fool that married Jessica Simpson.

it is completely legal. My cousin's husband did that when they married- he took her last name. He was the only one with a different last name(3 kids involved), so instead of paying the $$ to change my cousin and 3 kids names, they married and just changed his name.

Well, I know that yahoo carried an article about this trend recently. It had to do with the more influential name. Either way, it is legal to change your name in most jurisdiction, so I dont see why not (legal).

Yes it is although it doesn't happen that often. And it's no more expensive for a man to change his name than it is for a woman to do so. Either way they have to change their names on all documents/accounts that require their signatures. All credit card information has to be changed, their driver's license will have to be changed, social security will have to be changed, w4s, Any purchase agreements (cars, homes) loans, bank information. Women have to change those things just like men do...

You bet. A legal name change is a simple as a small filing fee and 30 days wait. I would've done it for my wife in a heartbeat.

In American anyone can change their name to just about anything. It's not very difficult, and there isn't too much paperwork involved. It's so easy, in fact, that I know a couple who both changed their MIDDLE names just because they happened to be at the courthouse and felt like it.

It is legal..just a bit more expensive & 1-2 more forms. This guy in CA is suing to make it just as easy for the man to take the woman's last name. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,243605,00.html
