okay
there were 3 men who went into a hotel, the attendent said the total cost was £30 for the room. they all gave £10 and went up. later on the manager said, its not 30, its £25. the attendent ran up with the five pounds and explained it was a mistake.
they were very understanding and said, give us a pound each and keep the 2 pounds for yourself.
so infact, because they got a pound back each they only paid £9 each. so thats £27. there was £2 pound tip, where is the other pound???
i actually dont know the answer to this please help.

This is a very serious allegation you are saying about this particular hotel. If they had 20,000 guests a year, then thats £20 grand someone is pocketing... However, ide be more concerned as to who had the missing penny...
See £25 Divided by 3 people = £8.33 each...£24..99p
£3 back. 1 pound each...£27.99p
£2 tip...£29.99
So whos the B**tard that nicked the penny

The riddle tries to trick you. The 2 pounds is part of what the men paid. They paid 27. The attendant had 2 and the hotel has 25. The other three pounds are the pounds that the attendant gave back, giving you a total of 30.

There is no "other pound." The room cost 25 pounds, each man paid 9 pounds for a total of 27 pounds and the 2 extra pounds beyond the price of the room went to the attendant.

The mistake is saying they paid £9 each. They infact paid 25/3 each.
That left 5 pounds.
3 between them and £2 for attendent.

It hasn't gone anywhere because they each paid £10 that equals £30, then they were given a discount of £5 making the room £25 not £30. Next they were given the £5 back but they handed £2 back for a tip and leaving them each with £1 hence still £30. Easy when you know how.

Initiallly the men paid £10 each for the room. On receiving the £5 back the cost reduced to £8.33 each. The men then gave a further £3 to the attendant or £1 each meaning each man paid £9.33 (or £28 in total) for their room, not £9.

Now without me going on, Do it this way. They all paid £10 each, = £30 then the guy says its £25 and returns £5, now u say the guys kept £1 each and gave him £2 tip. Ok but take the £5 divide it by 3 = £1.666 each. now if they gave him a £2 tip then it would be 0.666 pence each given to the hotelier leaving them with £1 each. Its the £5 tip between 3 people that throws u out.

There is no other pound.
The men only paid 27 pounds. The hotel got 25 and the attendant got the other 2.
