What do they do for a ligament tear or sprain? Do i have 2 use crutches since I cant walk on it? if so how long? Do you have any good websites?

sprain and tear is not the same thing. A sprain is treated with a cast for 2 weaks...you don't ned crutches. A tear can be mild or severe. If it's a severe..total rupture you need surgery. otherwise just a cast again. And a good physiotherapist after

I sounds like a pull or slight tear of your ACL. If you completely tore it you would not be walking. It is difficult to say what your prognosis is. You are going to need a MRI scan of your knee to see the degree of damage. The good thing is there is a possibility that you won't need surgery. Had you torn it completely, you would definitely need surgery. If you notice swelling apply ice and keep it elevated above your heart. It is possible that you damaged more than one area of your knee. Your MRI will give you all the answers. Unfortunately no one on yahoo answers can give you an answer until we know exactly what your diagnosis is. When you find out repost a question. Depends on the injured Lig and how injured it is. Could be 2 weeks to a year depending on extend and area of the tear.
Much more info is needed to answer this question correctly

Usually a splint or cast for 6 wks.
Crutches also.
Build knee strength if it is your knees, do ankle weights
