I don't know if I'm looking for boat shows in the water or boat races but I've seen pictures and video where hundreds of boats tie together and party.

Go to boat marinas lot of info there, make friends get to know other boaters find out what they are doing , in the marinas
they usually have something planned every weekend .
Island hoping ,parties, etc. In Islamarada Fla Keys off of
Windley Key there is a sand bar two miles offshore that
at low tide is 2miles long and about 150yds wide. In spring
break in March there is 2 or 300 boats anchored out there
mostly college kids , unbelievable parties there is a constant
mass of helicopters overhead Coast Guard and news
checking out all the action. FSU coeds are the best. The water
is so calm and beautiful there that most of the college kids take
jet skis there.

It depends where you are. I'd look on boating or wakeboard web sites in your area. You don't want to trailer your boat too far! In Northern California the party spot is the lost isle, in the delta near Sacramento.
