What are the real beginnings of evolution? That is, when did evolution start taking place? Should I also include the Big Bang Theory?

philbert, my thoughts exactly. My theory on this is that my bio. teacher would like to have me waste my otherwise free weekend working on something he won't even glance at.

Forget about the big bang, it has nothing to do with evolution. I would start with a definition and expand on it, what it is, why it is important, how it works. Then discuss Darwin and other scientists that have done evolutionary research and give examples of animals that have evolved and why the changes are important. Also give examples of animals that didn't evolve. Finally I would discuss modern examples of evolution and how it is effecting current society, H5N1 and eColi are excellent examples.

Good Luck,

This is how you should begin:

(first start who came up with it and what it is)
Evolution is a theory conceived by the retarded Charles Darwin, a british naturalist. He probably made this theory becuase he knew it would be a big breakthrough in science and becuase it would make him famous. This theory was probably his explanation for why some people like banana's so much.
Evolution is RUBBISH!
(According to Darwin, when it took place)
(How somethings evolve (I'm telling you, evolution is a load of camel poop. how can something just alter a part of its body to adapt to something. Stupid, isnt't it)
(then get more specific into what it is and it's information)
(try to find evidence that would support or go against it and maybe clarify why somepeople might agree with it or not)
(write about the controversy)
(write about how it might affect someone and someone's daily life, even the world)
(talk about whether it might matter what someone believes)
(talk about the opposing reality of Creationism)

Leave out the Big Bang. It occurred so long ago that a discussion of it is not particularly relevant to evolution. Our solar system is a second-generation solar system -- the heavy elements that we have in our solar system were formed in a supernova or hypernova that occurred millions of years after the Big Bang.

Start with "primordial soup" and conditions on the early Earth -- probably reducing atmosphere, shallow seas (this is very hypothetical!). The first part of evolution would be "survival" of chain molecules... and perhaps replication of something similar to RNA.

Well it may not help in your career, but it is very important to understand the principles of evolution. The first concept of evolution started in Greek philosophy. But so did the first concept of life being in its prefect form. It is mainly because of Greek philosophy that Christians thnk life couldn't have evolved. (I can't remember who the philosopher was.) The Greek theory was that everything in this world had a perfect blueprint in another world. Thus, if everything in that world was perfect, there was no need for it to change and adapt, meaning that creatures in this world didn't change and adapt. Then Christians built on this concept, which is why they were so reluctant to accept evolution.

So exploring the original philosophies would be a good place to start. That's actually how most of my Bio classes that dealt with evolution (including evolution itself) introduced us to the concept of it.

Ask your teacher how this will ever make you a dime. You're flushing your time down the toilet. You should be learning how to make a living.
