Would a guy choose to quit partying so hard and focus on career and family or would a guy choose to blow it all, drink and party, and eventually go back to the poor country he came from?
Assume you are an illegal in this country that has the option to be successful (very clear path to do this) or blow it and get deported.

Your assumption fails to address what will really determine his decision....his personal character. Do you think alcoholics can quit drinking because they have some wonderful opportunities ahead of them if they do? Or how about the serial adulterer?
He will choose the path that his character dictates, and no outside influence (even your relationship) can change that.

Hmmmmm.. If I were an illegal, I think I would be successful because what was the use of coming all the way over here just to screw up and get deported again. A waste of time I would think.

It depends on what he'll get out of each situation. Sometime what others consider successes in life may seem like failure to others.

depends on what he is more scared off hard work or getting deorted.. if he is scared of trying and failing... then he rather party and hope he gets lucky.. if he truley believes in himself...then he will knukle down and work...
