the most useful are embryonic stem cells...stem cells can be obtained from several other places, like cord blood, but the cells arent as adaptive for some reason, so embryonic cells are preferred.

scientist make the difference between embryonic and adult stem cells. The advantage of embryonic stem cells is that they are not so differentiated as adult stem cells and when they do differentiate it's hard for scienetists to control it.
Adult (multipotent) stem cells are more comonly used. You can find them for example as hematopoietic stem cells in umbilical cord blood or bone marrow. The problem with these stem cells is that they can not proliferate of differentiate them in vitro (in a lab). So hematopoietic stem cells can only differentiate to for example red blood cells and not to liver cells. Scientists are looking at a way to make this possible

Probably the embryonic stem cells, because they can transform into anything, but adult stem cells can be extremely useful as well - it depends upon the application.
btw: I am "Paul H", Level 6, but I am having problems accessing my original account. I'm hoping it gets resolved soon. Good luck in your biology class.

Stem cells from a baby's umbilical cord are 'unimprinted'. Plus, the umbilical cord just gets tossed, so they are readily available without any risk to the fetus.
