Right bad essay topic. Or you could say the following
1. They dont create anything.
2. Its not like they have to go to college and graduate and make passing grades to do this.
3. They are not saving lives
4. Hey, they put their pants on just like I do.
5. Some are not even good roll models with all the cheating and drug use.

the salaries of athletes are paid by you the consumer, so as their pay goes up your costs go up in higher prices and tickets so that the owners can still make their money and pay the athletes. the contribution to society compared to pay is questionable, but that is the free market at work and unless you are ready to change our capitalist system that is just how it will happen, supply and demand. bring down demand, pay will go down.

Because society will benefit much more if that money went to Artists (not pop singers, etc), Philosophers and Scientists.

they should get paid to win not to play. any where else you pay after you are happy with the result.
