On my 4wd truck,I have 4 different settings which are.
2 high- Auto- 4 high- 4 low on the dial.
My question is this, by transferring to Auto from 2 high will this have any effect on my gasoline mileage.I am not in 4 wd just Auto
so I guess the wheels sense slippage and automatically transfers the power. By running in this setting during snow or icy conditions
am I affecting the gas mileage????? Please answer!!

Keeping it in 2 high will give you the best mileage.

Auto mode does enable the Tcase for the clutch to engage on command... this results in extra drag and increased fuel consumption.

Running in light snow with changing icy conditions, Auto mode is appropriate. But in ICE and PACKED SNOW, 4HI is best. Reason is most 4wd vehicles have free differentials with brake-based traction control... in Auto mode, the delay of the control system may result in some unforseen stability issues.

Sounds like you have a late model GM vehicle with the Auto-Trak transfer case (NP 234). This is an excellent, strong, reliable system. All normal driving should be done in 2HI. Extended driving in Auto will affect mileage and wear. This is due to the front axle disconnect located between the diff and right wheel. In Auto mode, this is engaged, which causes the front diff and driveshaft to spin. At that point, your transfer case will intermittently apply torque to the front shaft once rear wheel slip is detected. Only use Auto in varying conditions, for slop, go and put it in 4HI. 4LO is great for moving around on soft terrain with a heavy load, or up a steep boat ramp, but not to be used on dry pavement.
