Someone told me it is against the law to have it.

a lot of states have a law against sodomy (defined as oral or anal copulation). But I can't tell you if it is illegal in your state as I don't know which state you're in. In any event, these laws, though on the books, are never enforced, and their constitutionality has been casted into serious doubt by Supreme Court cases such as Lawrence v. Texas, et seq.
In short, the answer to your question may be yes, it could be illegal, but that the laws against it are not enforced.

Depends on the state you are in. Some states still have laws on the books governing the legal sex acts, and who can participate in them. Some states limit all sex acts are only allowable among a married couple. You would have to look at laws in your state.

Most likely though, even if on the books, states do not really enforce any of these laws. So, as long as you are not in public, no worries.

In public, very much so. I believe in Utah there is a state law against it... perhaps a trip to your local library will help you out.
