You should not feel embarrassed by the question you are asking because most women have had or will have this problem at least once.It sounds like you have a bacterial infection. There has been a lot of controversy as to weather the infection is sexually transmitted or not. Most doctors will say that it is not an std.Bacterial vaginosis is probably what you have.It happens sometimes when bad bacteria replaces good bacteria.Your doctor can prescibe antibiotics to cure the problem.

Infection, eating too much garlic or onions, um, gee, I think it could be anything... Call your dr for a check-up, to make sure you don't have a bacterial infection (I get them at least 2x a yr, and they are NOT sexually transmitted). Your dr can also suggest alternative cleaning habits, etc. Something your girlfriend may want to consider is washing HER hands with antibacterial soap and a fingernail brush right before you have sex, and that she keep her fingernails really short. Hands can have a lot of bacteria and chemicals on them, and under the fingernails it's worst. She may be injuring you with microscopic tears and scratches, which may cause infections--> the smell.

There is a vaginal infection that can smell really offensive and its called Bacterial Vaginosis.....easily treated with a course of anti-biotics but you will need a swab taken to ensure thats what it is......one other way of knowing it could be this is when you wee does it smell then too....cause the toxins come out when we urinate and it smells a bit then aswell. If its not this then it could be Thrush but that doesnt usually smell too bad. Id go to your GP hun. goodluck

Might be an infection. Sometimes though if you sweat it can be a bit smelly. Or if you eat certain foods, eg garlic. That can sometimes lead to it.
And by the way, those who think this problem is gross and just mock, then why bother even answering the question? idiots...

Not unusual ...check your vagina for discharge? I would strongly urge you to consult a Gynecologist to rule out the possibility of STD's.
