Can anyone tell me why the cartoon characters on backyardigans a cartoon series on nick Jr?

have names like uniqua,tasha,tyrone,and pablo.
i not trying to say there is a white or black name but these names to me seem like, well you know?

Maybe they wanted a change from the everyday Sandy, John...type of names.
