i own a 5 month old grey squirrel. i found him in the woods hurt about 3 months ago. now he is a very happy, playful pet. he got loose about 2 weeks ago, he was gone for 3 days. when he came back he came inside and slept in his dish. so, now i have him as a pet. problem is, i live in tenn. its legal to own a squirrel. but i;m moving to florida, and it's not. you have to get a licence to keep him. i need to know how to go about this. so if anyone knows the answer please let me know. thank you

If you have had him as a pet for 2 months he is probably not able to go back to the wild. He won't be scared of people and that's dangerous. Call the wildlife and fisheries department in the area of florida that you're going to and talk to them hypothetically. dial #67 and don't give them your name.

You shouldn't be taking wildlife from the wild- the laws are there for a reason- people like you. Doesn't matter if he is happy and playful- the laws are in place for a reason. Too bad you can't find out where people live on this thing or I would report you.
What you can do is take him to a rehab center- you screwed him up too much to be released, but they could possibly use him as an education animal.

Where I live, you need a wildlife rehab licence to keep one. You need to take lots of courses as well. I would send him to a wildlife rehab so they can reindroduce him to the wild.

Encourage him to return to the wild!!!! If he was gone 3 days he did survive. He will live longer healthier life!!!
