The gothic band the Cruxshadows features a violin in almost every song, and some songs rely almost solely on it. There is also the band Apocalyptica, which is a string quartet that does dark music. Their album Inquisition Symphony includes versions of heavy metal standards without the vocals.

Some of the songs by the band "I Am Ghost" use a violin to make some nice tunes, especially in the song "Pretty People Never Lie, Vampires Never Really Die".

Look for music by evanescence, they sometimes have violin in their music, there's one song called Good Enough, that i think has violin, since they are a gothic band.
