My favorite is Bellagio, but it is pricey. Bally's or Mirage are nice places, too. I'd probably choose Bally's over Mirage.

You will get all sorts of suggestions of hotels on the strip, as everyone has their favorite. By mentioning Mirage and Bally's, I take it that you prefer to be located more 'center' of the strip.
I've stayed at most all hotels on the strip since I go there 6 to 8 times a year for conventions.
Bally's is good - a little older in appearance, and in clientel. Mirage is really nice but unless you can find a deal, it is more expensive. I have had good luck at Treasure Island, right next door to Mirage and across from Bally's. It is priced less than Mirage. Also Flamingo is good. All center strip.
I usually go directly to each casino's website and check out what promos and deals they have.
Venetian, Bellagio, Caesars and Wynn are all very pricey. Stay away from Frontier, Circus Circus - cheap, but not worth it.
Now - as a father with a daughter of my own - BE CAREFUL. When you go out, stay on the strip, a couple blocks off the strip can be dangerous. Always stay in a group - no one go solo.
You know the saying "what happens in Vegas - blah blah".
Unfortunately, many people tend to leave their concience at home - I did also when i was younger.
So I'll get off my soapbox now. Have fun - good luck - be safe - God Bless.

If you want a room (that's clean, nice, safe) that wont break your wallet... i'd say BARBARY COAST.
It's often overlooked. Rates are among the best for mid-strip properties. And, the rooms just got renovated a little while back. Including 40 inch plasma flast screens in EVERY room.
The location is the best (period). You'll have the bellagio, caesars, and bally's all within a VERY short walk. Cabs are available. They have a FREE shuttle if you want to go off strip (to Orleans, Gold Coast, or Summerlin).
It's a smaller hotel, so check-in will be a breeze. If you can do without being waited on hand & foot.. this place is a winner. I've never had anyone on our message-board complain after staying there.
It's restuarants are 'fair' to 'good'. There's some late-night specials in the coffee shop, etc. But, then again, every hotel has em.
I say ......... save dough on your room (you're probably only going to need it for shower/sleep & that's it), and have more money for your nice dinners, gambling, shows. Just an idea.
If you want a view - you MAY (that's a very big MAY get to a peak at the bellagio fountains), otherwise, it will be the Bally's tower across the street.
If you book the BC, or even if you dont - be sure to check out BIG ELVIS ... this guy is good. He performs a lounge act @ the BC. Cool Stuff.
The other hotels you mentioned & the others have mentioned are all nice properties. It's basically all about sacrifices, etc.
CIRCUS CIRCUS -- avoid this place at all costs!! (it's dingy, it's old, the amount of strollers & kids in there is insane!!!!)
IMPERIAL PALACE -- soon to be gone, but the rooms are a value
FLAMINGO -- if you like floor to ceiling windows, they gottem. Good rooms too.
HARRAH'S -- i'm not a fan of Harrah's... and word is (on my message board) the room quality is "Best Western" level.
MIRAGE -- nice, if you can afford it
T.I. -- i'd choose them over MIRAGE (very similar rooms, and they have a free tram TO THE Mirage), but you'll save $30/night.
CAESARS -- you'll pay a LOT of dough here for a room. If you can get a room in the "Augustus Tower", it's about the best standard room in all of the city.
BALLY'S -- this is a good hotel. Service quality is also good (not withstanding their cafe/coffee shop, dont ask). The north tower has been renovated. It can be hit or miss for what tower you will score if you book there.
MC -- clean rooms, fair value. Casino is often dreary or dead (just my opinion).
NYNY - smallll rooms. Nice casino though.
okay, i've typed a novel -- forgive me -- i havent even talked that much about where to gamble, lol.
Hope this helps.

For nice but not horribly pricey, try the Luxor - it's located near some good casinos and it's a good hotel. The Excalibur is a little cheesy but it's inexpensive and in a good location. I am not crazy about the Mirage because the hotel feels really, really crowded and the doors to the rooms are very noisy. There are good deals to be had at most of the hotels on the strip - keep checking Travelocity and sign up for deals on the individual hotel's websites.
By far, my favorite hotel in Vegas is the Venetian. It is beautiful, the rooms are huge and the service is wonderful.

I recently stayed at the Platinum Hotel which is a block from the strip. The room was the best that I've stayed at in Vegas. I've stayed at quite a few hotels on the strip and the rooms are a lot nicer at the Platinum for a much better price. I'd recommend that you check it out!

[In case you missed it from the other day...]
Aloha from Down Unda!
If money wasn't a concern, we'd definately be happy to return to Caesar's Palace for a week!
It was excellent for the six day stay we enjoyed as a result of a contest win, but certainly couldn't have otherwise afforded. Ours was a very large room complete with an oversized spa bath, on an upper floor [but in the 'back' on the 'wrong' side of the building]. None the less, we REALLY enjoyed the services, facilities & the unbeatable 'glamour' of what can only be described as 'thee standard' & an icon of the luxurious Las Vegas experience. The pool itself is worth the price of admission, even when it's closed, too cold to enjoy! The class of the joint renders a nice warm inner glow to know we can pass the security points with our cards to enter our sanctuary.
Of course the Stratophere also afforded us a secure & pleasant stay for the other 14 days we were in town & even the Tropicanna was a treat for our economic budget back in the early 90s for a 2 week stay.
You CAN have as much fun without the 5 star resort tab but you'll NEVER be able to boast better than 'old money' Caesar's Palace. The rest are merely, 'Johnny come lately' efforts to copy Caesar's standards.
It's difficult to even imagin anything better than Caesar's. It's a 'tuff act to follow'!

The Rio is my fav! It is not on the strip but it is a quick cab ride of you can hope the Barburry Coast shuttle at the Gold Coast across the street. I usually rent a car while I am there. It is fun to cruise the strip in a convertable!

I have stayed at the Luxor twice. I love the Egyptian motiff. It isnt too pricey and the hotel itself is absolutely beuatiful. If you do stay there, ask to stay in the pyramid. The inclinators, elevators, are cool to ride. The sorta go sideways. The pools are awesome.

Monte Carlo is one overlooked property that has excellent deals. Rooms are nice, GREAT location, and has a couple decent places to eat.
AFA my favorite hotel, it's gotta be the Hard Rock. Good crowd, no satin-jackets, buffet-hounds, and outstanding restaurants. Pool's not too bad either.
