i personally would go for the epiphone ,but it all sepends what sort of sound and genre of music you plan on playing ...
i just bought my son one of these as his budget was around the £100 mark and i can thoroughly reccomend these as an alternative to the epiphone ,these are a weighty guitar with a good resonance to them with good quality humbucker pick ups

I am biased as I have a 30 year old Strat that I would not part with.
The Squier Affinity range of Strats and Teles are excellent value for your money. The first thing to do is replace the strings with Ernie Balls' nickel covered stainless steel for a better ring.
A quick look around UK dealers catalogues will get you some very good kit for reasonable prices. Here is a list to start you on your way.

i will no longer be able to truly remark on an Epiphone Les Paul, yet a SG Epiphone is definitely no longer a high quality guitar. I paid $350.00 for mine understanding finished nicely what i became getting myself into. I did a great form of upgrading and picture i'm going to probable take that a sprint farther. Why? with the aid of fact I have been given uninterested in questioning that a staggering greenback guitar equals playing like others that are profesional and use them. I gave myself a certainty verify and saved myself from procuring some thing that wasn't mandatory for what I do. i've got been in a hurry to hurry out and get a competent guitar without taking lots thought in what i became procuring so i offered a eastern Fender Strat. After understanding what I did I went and offered an American usual. i've got performed the Squire and there isn't any evaluation to an American usual, yet i'm going to declare the Squire is a great guitar to learn your chops and track thought on. I additionally had a Les Paul Studio kind and became in one among those, gotta have the superb in a hurry mentalities and did no longer comprehend there are extra appropriate Les Pauls than that. with a bit of luck you notice the lesson I had to learn with a great form of money. i'm no longer settelling for a inexpensive guitar, i'm purely happy that i at last left that physique of ideas approximately throwing my money away and gaining knowledge of the complicated way. So I believe yet another remark that asserts flow to the shop and verify out alot of distinctive guitars. incredibly make an effort and learn up on what you purchase. Waite until you comprehend how each guitar sounds distinctive. i'd desire to nonetheless be accessible procuring if worry-unfastened experience hadn't kicked in. i like the sound of a fat physique electric powered hollow physique jazz guitar. i ask your self what relaxing i'm going to have with a seven string or a double-neck. in line with danger a Razor lower back with EMG %.-united statesand a Floyd-Rose tremelo. yet happily I drew the line and have been given an staggering little Marshal with a 12" speaker and a lot of little do-dads. Hmmm...in line with danger a Marshal stack next?

Squier is made by Fender.
However, I would prefer the Les Paul.
If you're trying to play metal or hard rock I would go with ESP LTD series guitars. That would fit in your budget. Jackson is also great for that price range.

Squire strats are not good, unsure of the tele version?Hohner do some good copies? The guitars you have mentioned i would say epi Lesley the best? Go and check out some 2nd hands mate, guitars in general are well looked after!(more for your money) I bought a 2nd hand U.S strat 1994 for 400 quid apx 10 years ago! That then was a pretty good buy!!

It is all down to individual taste.
As my name suggests, I am a two Telecaster person myself so, quite naturally, I would always recommend Fender.
