My father owns a movie theater and his head projectionist has to be out of work because of a death in the family. How difficult is it to splice film?

You should have a jig that holds the two pieces of film in a channel with pins that keep the holes precisely spaced. The two pieces of film are placed overlapping and a razor is pulled through a slot to make a butt cut and the two fragments are pulled out. A piece of special thin clear tape is put across the joint.
