Well, I have a PS3 and a STANDARD TV (not HD). Can I still go buy Blu-Ray DVDs and watch movies on it, or do I need an HDTV?

Yes, you can watch Blu-Ray dvd on any kind of TV but you won't get the best picture. Blu-ray disc are mastered in 1080p resolution and standard tv can not display high resolution. On a standard tv your Blu-ray disc wil look just like a normal dvd, to get the best picture you need a HDTV. A HDTV can display a minimum resolution of 720p and some tvs can go up to 1080p.

You would do well to invest in an HDTV. Should you choose to go that route, make sure you settle for nothing less than 1080p resolution and something that has either HDMI or DVI (HDCP only) inputs. While component inputs may give you up to 1080i resolution with 2.1 sound, an HDMI-to-DVI adapter will give you full 1080p minus the 7.1 surround sound. For those needing this sort of adapter, I direct you to my source link--I've bought from them before, and they're top notch + cheap.

Having blu-ray discs without an hd-compliant tv... is somewhat pointless. They're 3x more expensive, but at least you'll be prepared for when you DO go for the LCD/plasma alternative. One small benefit--if you have a 7.1 surround system and receiver with an hdmi input, your movies will output in full 7.1 surround (not all blu-ray movies support this--same with blu-ray games)!

I think that could watch them on any TV, but in order to get the full advantage of Blue Ray, you will need an HDTV.

if u use a blu-ray dvd on a standard tv,there will be no difference of that and a normal dvd, so i recomend insted of splashing out money on a blu-ray disc that does realy affect u,buy the cheaper dvd option
