I currently have Sky (on the full channel package) and will be purchasing a second hand Sky+ Box from a relative who has decided to cancel their subscription. I`ve requested a Sky+ viewing card from Sky for the box.

Is it possible for me to simply disconnect the Sky box and then connect the Sky+ box using the current wiring setup ?

After activating my Sky+ viewing card, would I be able to use the box and its recording features ?

I realise that I won't be able to 'watch one channel while recording another' until I get sky to do a proper install.

To cut a long story short, Sky buggered up the location of the initial dish installation so I`m trying to save repeated call out charges and make them sort this out plus the Sky+ in one visit. Thing is I can't arrange this until April because of some work being done to the house.

Any input on this would be appreciated.

Cheers

hiya, my parents have just upgraded to sky + and yes they did have to have new wires and leads put in including the dish, im not sure why though. Also to use the sky + features requires you to pay a £10 a month subscription but if you take out sky world this is free (movies and sports), We have the family pack here and pay around £32 a month for that and the features (recording, pause etc). Hope this helps, A small tip though, try calling sky and ask if they have any offers for you to upgrade, you may find they will give you a new box, dish and installation anyway, always worth a try xxxx

You should have no problem as long as Sky register your new card to your new Sky+ box. Like you said you wont be able to record one watch another until you have a proper install to put two lines in from the dish.
Hope it helps..
