I'm assuming you're asking how to sell your used textbook, in a better way than selling it back to the bookstore since they like to rip students off.

I stopped selling books back altogether because they would give me at most half the price back for a book, even though it still looked brand new and had not a single word even underlined. I figured that for my major books they might be useful, and for anything else, if there was one reason I'd look back at it for reference it was more worth keeping than getting a little money for it.

I think the best idea would be to see if you can put up a posting about the book around campus. Make a flier including what textbook it is, what class, possibly what professor (since some of them use different books for the same course), the condition of the text, and of course your name/phone number and/or email. Then try and hang them in residence halls, bulletin boards in the school buildings, the dining hall, etc.

Even if you sold it for only $20 less than the bookstore, if it's in good condition, I think people would be interested!

First find out what your local bookstores are offering, then check online at Barnes and Noble they buy ans sell used textbooks.
If it is a class that is common at your school then you could try posting flyers but be sure to give the full book description year published, edition so that potential buyers know they are getting the correct book for their class.
The earlier you check the local bookstores the better because some buy only a limited number of books back!
Some become great resources so if it is a book related to your major you may want to keep it.

hang out in the local college textbook store (be non-chalant about it, don't stand there with your book holding a "I am selling this book for a heck of a lot cheaper than this store!" sign...my guess is that they could kick you out for soliciting... and when you see someone buying that book, offer yours to them at a price at least ten dollars less than what the bookstore is selling it for. Usually they will jump at the chance...I know I did when I was buying mine... now if you are asking about how to RETURN a brand spanking new book, that came from the publisher in shrink wrap, without the wrap? You are pretty screwed. They have this crazy policy that will not bend... sorry. But I really do recomend option A. Good Luck!

The worst way is to resell it to the college book store. They'll give you about 10 percent of its value. If the book is current and teachers are still using that edition, go to the building where the classes are being thought. Place the book on a bench and step about 30 yards away. Wait for a college student to walk up to the book. If the student takes the book, quickly walk up and say it's your book, but you are willing to sell it for a low price. It's a lot like fishing.

Tell your friends if they know of anyone who needs the book to come and buy it from you for less than the bookstore would charge.

i would say put up signs around your college. make the price lower than the "used" in the bookstore, but higher than what you would get in the bookstore.
