I put a DVD in my laptop. It wouldn't play. I tried to eject it and the tray pops open barely but I can't pull it open the rest of the way. It releases but it's like something inside is holding it so I don't want to pull too hard and break it. Does anyone know what I can do to resolve this? Any help is much appreciated. I also tried the manual eject hole and still the same problem.

OK Thanks everyone! I got it out. The stupid DVD was pushed down onto the spindle properly. The problem was that the center of the disc cracked at the hole and there was a piece of plastic sticking up. I just pushed and pulled repeatedly gently back and forth and it finally popped loose.

When the DVD disc gets out of the round thingy in the middle, it gets dislodged and blocks the whole mechanism. That is why it is very important to gently push the disc into that knob. SInce the harm has been done, remember that it is a laptop. It will be easy to try jiggling it and opening upside down, side ways and see if gravity will gently dislodge the disk and you may be able to open a little bit to push the disk in place. Try doing that to a desktop computer.
On a laptop, you also have room to play with in the bottom of the base. If even that part will not show, then you are stuck. Get a technician to remove the entire disk assembly out.

It kind of sounds like the DVD is out of place in the holder. Try and see inside to see if it is in place. If not, then try to gently push it back into the holder. If that does not work then you may have to take it in to have a professional remove it, since the manual eject hole does not work.
