I like him a lot too and thought he would be making more of a name for himself in the NBA, because he was so hyped up in college but kind of fell in the draft somewhat.

J.J. Redick was a great player in college, and he rewarded as the 11th pick in 2006, a lottery pick selection. But it was pretty clear before the NBA draft that he was not going to be a primetime player in the pros. He's not real athletic compared to other NBA players, so he'll have problems playing defense and getting space to create a shot. He wasn't a great ball handler in college, so that doesn't help in the NBA. His only skill today is outside shooting so that's why he's only fourth on the depth chart at SG in Orlando behind Grant Hill, Keyon Dooling, and Keith Bogans. It doesn't help his playing time that Orlando's a deep team. He won't be a bust like Trajan Langdon, but don't expect Elton Brand production either. Maybe he's a Chris Duhon, a solid NBA player who fits a good niche in the NBA and plays a long time.
As for Redick's reputation, I think half is his fault and half is out of his control. He came off as somewhat cocky at Duke so that didn't endear him to fans. You didn't heard those complaints from players like Elton Brand or Carlos Boozer, but you heard the same stuff about Christian Laettner- a player no one really liked. Of course, Redick coming from Duke is out of his control. Duke is a great academic private school with a great head coach and recruits the best players. They didn't make the NCAA tournament one season out of the last 21 seasons (94-95). When they make the NCAA tournament, they always make it to the Sweet 16. So there's a lot of jealousy when a school's on top every year so everyone loves to see Duke failures. And there's plenty of Duke failures in the NBA to sneer about- Laettner, Langdon, Cherokee Parks, Jay Williams, Mike Dunleavy Jr (so far), etc...
It seems NBA teams overestimate Duke's most talented players and underestimate the less highly touted players like Duhon and Carlos Boozer.

well he was a great college player no doubt about that, but that doesnt mean itll translate well into the nba. i think redick will at best be a kyle korver type of player. not the star, not the main focus of the team, but a good role player who can hit the 3 consistently.

HE IS AN OVERRATED, OVER HYPED GOOD SHOOTER IN COLLEGE. IN THE PROS , HE IS NOT QUICK ENOUGH AND WILL BE A ONE-DIMENSIONAL PLAYER.
