A solar powered DVD player is pretty small for an island.
Does this player have a video?
I would take whatever DVD movies come with the most disks. That way I could use them in more locations and directions as signal mirrors to get rescued.

Yes assuming I would have the equipment to watch them,
Of course which ever ones I took would become my most hated movies of all time after a few month of watching nothing but them.
I would be tempted to take 'Castaway' with Tom Hanks as it is one of my favorites but I would resist. Here are my picks (granted I would try to bend the rules a little bit):
1. The Lord of the Rings trilogy
2. Abbott and Costello's greatest hits Vol. 3
3. The Sound of Music

I would bring The Tenth Kingdom, Gone With The Wind and Lonesome Dove. They are long movies that I could watch over and it would help kill time.
