So it is snowing yet again this afternoon. I just can't help but wonder where all the snow from this winter has come from. I'm not talking about the mountains either. If you're in Colorado you know what I'm talking about. So where's it all coming from? It never snows like this here at this time of year! What's the deal?

The configuation of the jet streams this year have made it so the coldest air over the United States (though not really that cold compared to some years - that's still to come over the eastern US late next week!) resided over the western US for much of the winter, with a ridge positioned over the east causing warmer temperatures.

The interaction with the subtropical jet stream to the south then brought moisture to the north and the interaction of the two jet streams, along with the lift produced by rising air around the southern Plains and Colorado region, produced snow in Colorado. This happened several times this winter, which is not common, which produced snowstorm after snowstorm in Colorado.

ok we live in Colorado and are experiencing the same thing you are.. Yeah this is pretty much normal ,actually the locals say its really been an average year .. its been lacking in the last few years but it seems the start of another cycle of normal snow for Colorado..It suppose to snow here again tonight and the guys that work our place has already pile mountains of snow along our drive off of it..and the road into our remote area has been plowed so much the snow is over six feet on either side about blocking the view when driving..so yes I would say its pretty normal..

You’re getting all the snow that the East Coast usually gets, in addition to your own. Up until a couple weeks ago, it was unseasonably mild on the Eastern seaboard, and people out here were freaking out about global warming until yours truly Answered and urged them to turn on their TVs and watch the weather channel about what was happening in your beautiful state. It’s just distributed differently this year, that’s all.
