Kidnapping is carried out with intent of extorting a ransom fr the return of the person, while abduction can be for any reason, not necessarily money.

Kidnapping is a legal term and describes the offense. Abduction is a term used on the news. Used interchangably often enough for everyone to be confused about true meaning.

"Broadcast English" is a wonderful thing. It can mean whatever you want it to mean.

I dont know if i am right,but i think kidnapping is when someone is taken by someone they know and abduction is when someone is taken by a total stranger.

A kidnapper asks for ransom in return for the release of the victim. An abductor does not.
