tion that you ever heard? Shouldn't the New York Board of Education be fired for reacting in such a childish manner to a portrayal of male anatomy??

1.........This is not a question.
2.........There are not enough details about exactly what the teacher did.
3........."sick minds", "medieval", "sick parents" were a VERY poor choice of words for you to use.
4..........Don't try running for office.

If what I read is true, that he was having students draw pictures of the male genitila on the chalkboard, then he shouldn't be suspended.........but, just flat out FIRED.

He hasn't been fired, he's on Administrative leave until this has been sorted out. Some parents will try to have him fired, and some school board members may listen. I am a teacher, and if this would have happened at my school, the teacher would have been suspended for a while, but not fired.

I don't find it ridiculous to reprimand him. I know that if a guy was asked to draw a penis on the board, suddenly shouts of "mine's bigger", "is that how small yours is", or even " should draw one, she's seen lots of them". If this was done in an all male class, then I think it would be okay, but otherwise, it was inappropriate.

It is not the most childish reaction I have heard of, but it is a bit silly. The teacher hasn't been fired, merely taken away from teaching duties while the incident is investigated. It was not the NY board of education either, it was the school that took him out of class due to parent complaints.
Hopefully it will be resolved maturely.

It was in an anatomy class where they were teaching sex ed.

Political correctness strikes again!!! What are they supposed to do? Show genitalia as a greyed out area in anatomy? Perhaps suggest that a bunch of kids don't need to know this stuff? What is wrong with these people?

Morons!

You said 'letting' them, so I gather it wasn't in the context of any assignment. Either way, the subject matter seems 'out of context' to me.

When dealing with immature imaginations at an already curious time in their development, no, I don't think the reaction was childish.

Teachers need to act more responsibly in directing the attentions of their classrooms than that indicated in your question.

I think the correct answer depends on what classroom this took place in.

Obviously if a math teacher has his students drawing pictures of penises then it is wrong. If it is a science, sex-ed, or a related class in which human anatomy is necessary to discuss, then it is an over-reaction.

The teacher obviously should not have been fired, but this shouldn't be allowed, especially in a public school system or any school system for that matter.
