If you have lost or forgotten your password for logging in to a computer running the Windows XP operating system, there are a few different options:

If you created a password reset disk for Windows XP, you can use that disk to reset the password on your account.

If you don't have a password reset disk, the other option is to log on as the Administrator (or to have the person who is the machine's Administrator log on) and change the password for your user account.

You could try restarting the computer in safe mode (hold down F8) and then override from the password section , you can turn it off or you will be able to access the start panel after booting like this. When you access the Start panel, change user account detail, turn the password off (providing you are an admin)

If you don't know the Administrator password, and don't have a password reset disk, then you will not be able to log on to Windows XP, and will need to reinstall the operating system and recreate any user accounts.

There are some programs available on the web which claim to be able to reset the password(s) without access to an Administrator account, but these are not Microsoft programs, and are not recommended. If you do wish to try one of these programs (at your own risk), a web search should turn up a number of options.

I fear the only way to get your computer back is to use the Recovery Console to restore the Windows Registry to original. I think it is a simple enough task, but it would cause you to have to reinstall all your programs.

If you go here, make the disc as instructed (you dont need to pay for the full access version)

If you don't know what you're doing, get someone who does. Open the CPU and remove the battery from the motherbord. This will reset the BIOS, the BIOS is what the computer uses to start, I could talk loads about it but I will spare you the nonsence,
power on at wall
Power button on cpu sends a message back to the Motherbord
The motherbord says it needs a password
so if you reset the Motherbord you won't need the password (s)

Restart in Safemod (F8, F12, or something like that during your restart).

Once in safemode go to the passwords place and create another super account. You can also log in as admin by typing in admin possibly and no password. Most people don't use the admin account which a default thing.

As you're starting it up, press F8 until you get the boot options menu. Select "Safe Mode With Command Prompt" if on windows XP:

once the command prompt comes up, type "net user administrator /random" and WRITE DOWN THE PASSWORD it gives you as it has been changed to that.
