I have been on birth control pills for years. This week was my placebo pills and I did not have a period. This has never happened to me before. I took a pregnancy test last night and it was negative. Could the test be wrong? Has anyone had this happen before? If it matters I am on Aviane.

I am 25. I should say I have been on birth control on and off since I was 19, but it has been consistent for the past couple years. I have tried out a few different pills and have been on Aviane since July '06.

I was on this one pill for years (estrostep), and all of a sudden I started only getting my periods every three months, or every other month. I don't know why; I wasn't under any unusual amount of stress, except when my period wasn't coming and I thought I was pregnant. I was never actually pregnant though. I went and switched to another pill; it turns out that low-dose pills are more likely to make you miss your period like that than higher dose ones are. So I switched to a slightly higher dose one and now I always get my period. I am such a worrier that I need to get my period every month just so I know I'm not pregnant.

Also, a test taken by the time your period is late should be correct! I'm sure you're fine.

Birth control can cause you to skip periods. After being on the pill for so long you are building up a lot of the horomones added by the pill. I would wait about 2 weeks and see if you spot or start your period then consult with your doctor

Birth Control Pills are also used as period regulators as well as birth prevention. All the same factors apply for missed periods even if you are on the pill. If you are more stressed than usual and dieting still contribute. Don't worry too much, the stress can be delaying your period right now.

I take Aviane also and have been for the past 7 years. I always get a period.

See your Gyn because this is not normal for the pill and your age.

Hi I've had this happen to me before. I found that I had been under a lot of stress and I didn't get my period, I think it's hormonal. You can also sometimes not get bleeding when you are on the pill if you have lost weight or gained weight quickly, well that's what I've found in the past.
