At home, I have a manual 2005 Altima and an automatic 1995 Camry. Next fall semester, I'm moving into a city that's known to have a high rate of car thefts, and I was wondering if I should take my altima to the city. I heard from several people that manuals are theft deterrents because less people know how to drive shift and don't sell as well as auto parts in the chop shops. However, the car is newer and nicer than my automatic camry. I was wondering if taking the altima would be a better idea than taking the camry. Thanks.

probably the cheapest is the auto club, it is a locking bar that goes through the steering wheel, it is very visual and makes the car impossible to steer. (can be defeated if they bring another steering wheel though).
Another option is to pick up a 12-volt tire inflater and let most of the air out of one tire. (Who would steal a car with a flat tire?)

Install an "ignition-killer" switch in the negative side of the ignition coil or coil pack(s) under the hood. Remote locate a key switch or you can get really hi-tech and use a wirelessly controlled relay in place of the switch and control it via a key fob transmitter. All it does is break the ignition circuit right where it counts. Activate it after you lock up. If all you're worried about is a thief driving it away-if they can't start it, they can't steal it. (short of using a ramp truck anyways..) If they want it bad enough-thieves will find a way. The idea is to make it more trouble than it's worth.

drive the older car, i would rather lose a 1995 then a 2005 car
it takes 1 hour to learn how to drive a stick, if someone wants to steal a stick they will, plus all the parts inside is the same, so they can use the parts from your altima.

But you can get it dark enough on the rear side doors so the guy breaking in can't see you sitting there with a glock..
