Because back before condoms and the pill if a woman had sex there was a very good chance she would get pregnant. If the boy was not a bread winner yet then the girl's father and mother would have to provide for the girl and the baby when the boy should have been doing it. The whole idea was to give the girl to a boy who was ready to take the girl off the hands of the family and provide for her needs. That is still the idea today but most kids pretty much think it's all just old fashioned mumbo jumbo. But things were not always easy in the world like they are today.

I was told usually 4 months, however every pregnancy is different. I have a friend who found out her baby's sex after 2 1/2 months. That was the first I never heard. Sometimes it depends on the way the baby lays while doing the ultasound as well.

They can tell as early as 14 weeks, its usually not as clear as it would be a little later but u can see it as long as the babys legs are open *i found out the sex of my last baby at 14 weeks accurately)....most ultrasound techs like to wait until at least 16 weeks which then it is pretty well determined...

I found out with my first at 16 weeks and with my second at 19 weeks. Typically around 20 weeks they will do a sonogram and can usually tell the sex then.

They will usually send you for an ultrasound between 14-18 weeks. During that ultrasound/sonogram they can usually tell you the sex of the baby.
