I'm 21 and have a one year old daughter. I like older movies, black and white, some romance movies or whatever. But I haven't seen a whole bunch and when I go to look at movies I never know which ones are good so I never buy any. I like these movies because they are classic and not inappropriate for my daughter to see if I want to watch a movie during the day or on the weekend while she is up. Do you have any suggestions for good old movies that I might like? Or that are popular? Any suggestions of good actors/actresses to look for in these movies if I am browsing? Thanks a whole bunch! My tastes have changed a lot since I became a mother, so I really don't have anything around that I like to watch/read anymore! :)

The Fountainhead (1949)
Gary Cooper and Patricia Neal stand out. Black and White classic.

Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941)
probably my favorite movie of all time...beautiful love story.

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947)
Romantic film with a supernatural love story...and one of the best.

Meet John Doe (1941)
Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck star in one of the best movies about what America could have been.....heartbreaking!

Lost Horizon (1937)
A plane crash delivers a group of people to the secluded land of Shangri-La -- but is it the miraculous utopia it appears to be?
My favorite fantasy movie of all time. Ronald Colman and Jane Wyatt are beautiful as the star crossed lovers.

Now, Voyager (1942)
My fav Bette Davis movie...excellent...and then some...

Oh, now you're talking! I love Hitchcock!!! How about: Shadow of a Doubt North by Northwest Rear Window Rebecca The Lady Vanishes More good classics that might appeal specifically to young women: The original movie of Sabrina (with Audrey Hepburn) All About Eve (with Bette Davis) The Apartment (with Jack Lemmon) Adam's Rib (Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracey) The original movie of The Women (take a look at how it SHOULD be done!)

These older movies are really good. They're not all black and white, but still good.
*Mary Poppins
* It's A Wonderful Life
*The Wizard of Oz
* Gone With the Wind
*Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Pandora's Box with Louise Brooks from 1928

Silent movies seem to fascinate children since they are mostly 100% visual. Also for adults they allow you to not use your ears as stimuli for a film and just focus on what you're seeing, which is actually pretty relaxing and "low-impact" when it comes to movie watching.

A good choice might also be Akira Kurosawa's "Dreams"

That's in color, vivid painfully bright color, and it's nothing but a series of 8 different elaborately filmed dreams. All 14 of my kids grew up on this one. They actually picked up a few of the Japanese words, so that was like a bonus feature in itself.

Thank you, drive thru.

Almost anything with Audrey Hepburn.
Check out your local library and see if they have any A&E movies like Pride and Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, Emma, Weathering Heights, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Little Women and My Fair Lady. The Newer Pride & Prejudice and Lake House are Great!

These aren't black and white, but they are old, and they are very appropriate, and they are musicals.
*The Music Man
*Mary Poppins
*The Wizard of Oz
*Singin' In The Rain
*Meet Me in St. Louis
*The Unsinkable Molly Brown
*Brigadoon
*Ohklahoma!
*Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
*Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the older one)
*Annie Get Your Gun
*My Fair Lady

Hope I helped!!!
