If only he would come to play in October. He's not clutch unfortunately. He'd be the best if he held up in clutch situations like his t'mate Jeter. He definetly will put up some stats before he's done. He could own the HR and RBI record before he retires.

I think he could possibly be in the top 10 by the end of his career. He is only 31, and with players taking better care of themselves, he should have at least 6 or 7 prime years left, if he can average 40 homers a year (which he could easily do, that alone would give him around 700, and he could break the record around age 40.
I think it is really unfair for him to take the brunt of the blame for the Yankees' playoff failures. Every Yankee, not just A-Rod, slumped the last four games of the ALCS against Boston in 2004. In 2005 and 2006, the only Yankee who did anything in the playoffs was Jeter. I think the huge contract that A-Rod has puts pressure on him to produce, but still, Sheffield, Matsui, and Giambi have not produced in the playoffs either.
I think next year is the year where A-Rod finally puts his struggles behind him, and earns some respect.

He has the best chance of breaking Hank Aaron's career home run record. (Barry Bonds doesn't count). He will be considered one of the best. I'm not so sure that he will fall into the top ten. If he does come through and play well in the playoffs and the Yankees do win it all while he's on the team, that could change the public's feeling about him. Bottom line is, he has to win a world series.

The answers that say Alex Rodriguez is not one of the all-time top players are just plain silly. For most of baseball history only two teams even made the playoffs (World Series). Those players were great players even though they did not make the playoffs.
No, Alex Rodriguez is one of the best all-time players in fielding, base running, hitting and hitting for power. I would take him over any shortstop that ever played the game.

According to his stats without any huge injuries he will be one of the greatest of all times. Unfortunetly, if he can't break out of his playoff slump, a lot of people will remember him as a player that crumbles under pressure. Manning finally got passed his demons so look for A-rod to get passed his in 07.

Stats can be twisted to argue the case either way. Personally, I judge player by what they do in the playoffs and World Series. Therefore, A-Rod's not even in my top 50. I'll take Reggie Jackson, thank-you.

Yes I believe in him. He a class act both on and off the field. So he had a bad season to his standards. A question to you would be how many MLB players wish they had his numbers last season. Since he is playing in New York the press ate him up.
